Job Summary

Provide active, hands-on peer support to a caseload of parent/caregivers in individual or group settings across agency, home, and community environments. Guide parents through the process with DCF, child welfare, courts, and community partners using evidence-based training and lived expertise. Assess and prioritize parenting needs, teach problem-solving skills, and facilitate workshops on trauma-informed parenting and child development. Assist families in acquiring practical skills, attending IEP meetings, and accessing community resources while maintaining appropriate documentation. Coordinate with project stakeholders, serve on committees, and represent the parents' voice to systems change initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have direct current or previous life experiences as the biological, kin, foster or adoptive parent of a youth with complex needs and receiving community mental health services, child welfare, and/or juvenile justice system
  • Must be able to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Ability to maintain and manage confidential information
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently, and exercise ethical and swift judgment during times of crisis
  • Knowledge of/linkages with diverse populations, key community stakeholders, and populations with/at risk for trauma
  • Public speaking experience
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication and writing skills
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks
  • Must value cultural differences
  • Must be able to work independently and/or as a member of a team
  • Must problem solve
  • Must be genuinely interested in working with survivors of trauma
  • Must have tolerance and respect for individual differences, opinions, and perspectives
  • Must be respectful of low-income families, as well as have a good understanding of different socioeconomic populations

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in providing education, outreach, and collaboration with community stakeholders
