Job Summary
Form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people by building trust through visible interest and active engagement. Act as an appropriate adult role model, seeking to engage youth in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth. Support family involvement, facilitate visits, and promote positive peer relationships while assisting individuals in making decisions about their activities. Demonstrate an empathic understanding of complex trauma, incorporating this into everyday interactions and responding to pain-based behavior in a sensitive, non-punitive way. Work a 24/7 roster including sleepovers, active, and day shifts across weekends. A Diploma in Community Services is required, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates encouraged to apply. Comprehensive mandatory Induction and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training will be provided upon commencement.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma in Community Services or related diploma
- Willingness to obtain and proof of enrolment (for candidates without the essential qualification)
- Available to work a 24/7 roster, including sleepover, active and day shifts
- Available to work on weekends
- Passion and skills in providing activities, routines, and residential supports
- Ability to nurture the development of emotional regulation, problem solving skills, and social competencies
- Ability to form and maintain professional, nurturing relationships with children and young people
- Ability to build trust through visible interest and active engagement
- Ability to act as an appropriate adult role model
- Ability to engage young people in purposeful activities aimed at developing life skills and self-worth
- Ability to support the involvement of family
- Ability to facilitate family visits/connections
- Ability to promote positive family relationships with children and young people
- Ability to promote and encourage positive relationships with peers and other persons significant to the child/young person
- Ability to assist the child/young person to participate as fully as possible in making decisions about the activities undertaken
- Demonstrate an empathic understanding of complex trauma
- Ability to incorporate understanding of complex trauma into everyday interactions
- Ability to respond to pain-based behavior in a sensitive and non-punitive way
- Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Checks
- Valid drivers license
- Working with Children checks
