Job Summary
Therapeutic Assistant position within Richland County School District One (SC) supporting emotionally handicapped students. Responsibilities include intervening with students in crises to manage behavior, assisting teachers and school administrators to prevent or control disturbances, providing individual, family and group counseling, planning and implementing recreational, educational and therapeutic activities, modifying lessons to meet student needs, documenting behavior and maintaining reports, and coordinating with psychologists, teachers, and other staff. Requires collaboration to help students stay focused, calm potentially dangerous students, and support positive behavior and academic progress. Must possess a Bachelor's degree in education, special education, child development or closely related field, and at least one year of related special education or mental health experience. Strong communication skills, ability to manage documentation, and comfort with duties ranging from counseling to clerical tasks are essential.
