Job Summary
Perform therapeutic apheresis procedures autonomously across critical care, emergency rooms, and outpatient centers, including plasma exchange, red cell exchange, leukapheresis, stem cell harvests, photopheresis, and therapeutic phlebotomies. Assess patient status relative to procedures using the nursing process and laboratory results, while evaluating medication compatibility and coordinating closely with physicians to arrange treatments and facilitate care. Perform venipunctures, access central venous catheters and ports, and act as a consultant to external healthcare personnel regarding clinical apheresis. Assemble, restock, and maintain supplies and equipment to ensure a safe work environment. Variable 1st shift Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week, with rotating on-call duties. No prior apheresis experience required; comprehensive training provided.
Required Qualifications
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse
- CPR certification
- Bachelor's degree OR a combination of education and work experience
- Two years of experience in medical/surgical or critical care nursing
- Good vein selection and venipuncture skills
- Good verbal communication skills
- Ability to effectively discuss procedures and medical issues with patients, families, and physicians
- A current, valid driver's license
- A good driving record
- Fully vaccinated against COVID-19
