Job Summary
Middle School Theatre Teacher will lead the IB MYP Theatre curriculum for grades 6–8, teaching inclusive units, guiding students through the artistic process, and assessing learning using IB MYP criteria. The role also serves as the lead director and coordinator for the annual Middle School Musical and coordinates with musical directors, choreographers, and volunteers to produce age-appropriate productions. Requires directing theatrical productions, collaborating across disciplines, maintaining effective communication with students, parents, faculty, and administration, and balancing classroom responsibilities with production demands. The ideal candidate will foster a low-risk, inclusive classroom culture, implement inquiry-based units around concepts like Aesthetics, Identity, Communication, and Change, and leverage strong organizational skills to schedule rehearsals and productions while promoting the arts within the school community.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Theatre, Theatre Education, Drama, Performing Arts, Education, or a related field with theater experience
- Pennsylvania teaching certification preferred
- Experience teaching theatre or drama to middle school-aged students (ages 11–14)
- Demonstrated experience directing theatrical productions, preferably involving middle school or adolescent performers
- Experience with the International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme preferred; willingness to complete MYP training required
- Strong classroom management skills with an understanding of middle school developmental needs
- Working knowledge of technical theatre elements including lighting, sound, costumes, and stage production
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills
