Job Summary
Provide translation, interpretation, transcription and other Linguistic Support Services (LSS) for Department of Justice materials across diverse formats and subject areas, including highly sensitive and legally oriented content. Responsibilities include translating documents and media, performing court/deposition interpretation, maintaining fidelity to tone and terminology, and using CAT tools (notably SDL Trados Studio). Must uphold strict confidentiality, possess strong English and target-language editing skills, and meet ILR 4 level equivalence. Position supports remote work with potential travel to National Capital Region and other CONUS locations; candidate must be a U.S. citizen with an active Public Trust or higher.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in the required language with superior skills in English and editing
- Qualifying scores ILR 4 minimum or equivalent on language/translation tests
- Must have lived 3 of the last 5 years in the U.S. (does not have to be consecutive)
- Must have at least 1 year of experience working with a law enforcement and/or legal department
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Know both English and foreign language vocabularies used in formal, legal, diplomatic, consultative, and casual contexts, including slang
- Know specialized vocabulary in English and the foreign language related to Government’s varied roles and missions
- Native-language fluency with professional command of non-native language
- Translate in a manner that is factually and conceptually accurate without changes, omissions, or additions
- Preserve the tone and register of source language materials
- Abide by relevant code of linguist ethics
- Proficient in using CAT tools, SDL Trados Studio
- Clearance: Active Public Trust or higher security clearance
- Location: Remote / National Capitol Region / Various CONUS Locations
- Travel: Some travel may be required
