Job Summary
The Testing Special Inspector performs Special Inspections in compliance with IBC/ICC standards, conducts various tests on construction materials, and carries out site visits for quality inspections. Responsibilities include recording test results, ensuring timely testing turnaround, supporting laboratory certifications, and maintaining equipment. Candidates must have a high school diploma, a valid driver’s license, five years of testing experience, extensive knowledge of AASHTO and ASTM procedures, and ability to read and interpret plans. Preferred certifications include IBC/ICC Special Inspector and NICET Level II.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
- Five years’ experience in construction materials testing in a designated specialty
- Extensive knowledge of AASHTO and ASTM procedures
- Ability to read and interpret plan documents and project specifications
- English language skills: ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos
- Mathematical skills: ability to perform basic arithmetic and apply concepts to practical situations
- Reasoning skills: ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
- Proficient personal computer skills including Microsoft Office
- Organizational skills: ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks effectively
Desired Qualifications
- Special Inspections – IBC/ICC Special Inspector
- ICC certification (Reinforced Concrete, Spray-applied Fireproofing, Structural Masonry, Prestressed/Post-Tensioned Concrete, Structural Steel – Bolting, Structural Steel – Welding)
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils)
- NICET Level II certification in Geotechnical (Construction, Laboratory, Exploration, Generalist)
- ACI certification in Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I
- ACI certification in Concrete Strength Testing Technician
