Job Summary
The R&D Test Technician works in an in-house lab to test and validate new and existing products. Responsibilities include using test equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, power supplies), integrating data acquisition hardware with LabVIEW and Python, developing automated test setups, designing and executing test plans to meet UL safety standards, collecting and analyzing data, and reporting results with MS Office. The role supports prototyping, troubleshooting manufacturing issues, building test fixtures, and collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams and external test facilities to ensure products meet performance and regulatory requirements. Occasional travel to third-party test facilities is required; candidate should be able to plan, fabricate, and troubleshoot test-related devices and procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Requires degree in relevant discipline or equivalent practical experience
- Experience with test equipment (DMM, power supply, oscilloscope)
- Experience integrating test equipment and data acquisition hardware using LabVIEW and Python
- Conduct engineering tests, collect test data, write and present reports of test results using MS Office
- Ability to learn and understand UL Requirements for each project and tailor test plans to meet the chosen standard
- Maintain working knowledge of current and new UL standards applicable to CTI equipment
- Periodically travel to third-party test facilities to witness tests
- Support engineering with data collection, prototyping, testing, and documentation
- Build automated testing systems for production testing
- Plan, draw, and fabricate housings, jigs, fittings, fixtures, test cables, and other devices to assist in testing, manufacturing, and assembly
- Troubleshoot processes, setups, and some product issues in manufacturing; run troubleshooting experiments to determine root cause
- Design test procedures to meet product requirements (functionalities, timing, safety standards)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to read/understand schematics, PCBs, and mechanical drawings
- Strong algebra/math skills
- Strong analytical and creative problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and engagement skills
- Eagerness to learn, take initiative, and work in a collaborative environment
- Ability to multitask and manage time effectively
