Job Summary

Metallurgical Technician responsible for preparing and interpreting metallurgical samples in a lab setting. Core duties include sample cutting, mounting, grinding, polishing, and etching; conducting hardness testing (Rockwell and microhardness including Knoop and Vickers); operating SEM/EDS and entering results into the LIMS database; interpreting ferrous and nonferrous microstructures (pearlite, ferrite, martensite, inclusions); applying image analysis for microstructural analysis; ensuring compliance with aerospace/military specifications (e.g., Pratt & Whitney, Boeing, GE); assisting with customer service and pricing completed jobs; recommending appropriate testing techniques; and upholding safety and quality standards. Requires an associate’s degree in a related technical field and 2-5 years of metallurgical laboratory experience, with familiarity of ASTM/ISO standards and strong analytical and communication skills.

Required Qualifications

  • An associate’s degree in chemistry, materials science, metallurgy or other related technical field
  • At least 2-5 years experience working full-time in a metallurgical laboratory
  • Commercial testing laboratory experience
  • Technical report writing experience
  • Experience working closely with customers to complete evaluation
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices and techniques of chemistry and metallurgy
  • Ability to follow established (ASTM and internal) methods and procedures
  • Willingness to learn new tasks and software
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to organize and multi-task
  • Aerospace & military specification knowledge
  • Experience with ASTM E3, E8, E18, E112, E 384, E 407, ISO 17025
