Job Summary
Tennis Professional provides tennis lessons to students of varying ages and skill levels under the direction of the Tennis Director. Responsibilities include evaluating students’ performance, ensuring tennis equipment is in good order, educating students on game strategies and sportsmanship, maintaining a professional appearance, and applying diverse coaching methods. Must be able to perform first aid, implement YMCA safety protocols (including COVID-related procedures), schedule and conduct individual and group lessons, develop training programs based on age/objectives, coordinate with parents/guardians, and support ALTA/USTA practices. Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills are essential, with a focus on member service, safety, and creating a positive learning environment. The role emphasizes safety, curriculum development for tennis programs, and maintaining facilities and equipment in accordance with risk-management guidelines.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Management or related field is preferred
- Proven experience working as a Tennis Professional or Instructor
- Sound knowledge of various coaching techniques
- CPR within 30 days of employment and must maintain certification throughout employment
- Certification through USPTA or PTR is advantageous
- The ability to motivate students
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- A passion for tennis
