Job Summary
Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials, managing classroom displays, and administering objective testing instruments. Conduct assigned instructional exercises with individual students or small groups while supervising students throughout the school day, including lunchroom, bus, and playground duty. Maintain a neat classroom, manage equipment inventory, and keep administrative records and reports current. Provide orientation to substitute teachers and participate in staff development and faculty meetings. Requires a high school diploma or GED with TABE test passed, one year of experience working with children, and a satisfactory fingerprinting background check. Wage is $15.00 hourly, Monday through Friday.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency)
- Passed the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) test
- Satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check
- One year experience working with children
- Ability to work well with children
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Frequent district-wide travel
- Occasional statewide travel
- Frequent prolonged and irregular hours
- Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
- Prolonged sitting
- Occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
- Repetitive hand motions, frequent keyboarding and use of mouse
- Occasional reaching
- Work with frequent interruptions
- Maintain emotional control under stress
Desired Qualifications
- Associate degree or higher
- Minimum of forty eight (48) semester college hours from an accredited college or university
