Job Summary
Develop and monitor the school health program by establishing policies, procedures, and work standards while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws. Conduct health appraisals, screen students and staff, and provide first aid care and medically prescribed services. Evaluate physical conditions, record immunizations and health data, and refer students to appropriate resources as needed. Collaborate with child-support agencies, negotiate medical services, and conduct home visits when appropriate. Serve as a resource person on health issues, provide staff development, and recommend corrective actions based on identified problems. Manage program allotments efficiently and prepare health reports for the supervisor, board of education, and health department. Serve students at Green Valley and Parkway Elementary Schools for the 2026-207 school year.
Required Qualifications
- Valid license as a Registered Nurse (RN) in North Carolina
- Considerable knowledge of medical disorders and treatment
- Considerable knowledge of child growth and development
- Working knowledge of public health problems and procedures for treatment in coordination with other health and social service agencies
- Working knowledge of Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations affecting the delivery of school health services
- Some knowledge of the school organization and the community served
- Ability to identify abnormal growth and development and symptoms of disease
- Ability to coordinate and facilitate services between the school, local health agency, and other community resources
- Ability to develop and maintain health records on students
- Ability to develop positive working relationships
- Individual will serve students at Green Valley and Parkway Elementary Schools
Desired Qualifications
- Prefer certification by the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) or be willing to obtain this certification
