Job Summary
REGISTERED PRACTICAL NURSE (RPN) for the Forensic Program at Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences. The role supports the Forensic Assessment and Rehabilitation Unit (FARU) within a Secure Forensic Service and may require working across multiple areas within the Forensic Program. Responsibilities include providing specialized care to patients with complex mental illnesses using a recovery-focused model, collaborating as an active member of an interprofessional team, and maintaining knowledge of CNOS standards, PHIPA, and related policies. The position is a 1-year CONTRACT and part-time in nature, with shift work and the potential to work in different Forensic Service areas as patient needs dictate. Experience in psychiatric nursing and/or forensic settings is preferred, and Meditech experience is an asset. Fluency in a second language is considered an asset.
Required Qualifications
- Registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario in good standing
- Current CPR – Health Care Provider
- encouraged Mental Health certification within five years of hire
- Demonstrated knowledge of CNO Standards of Practice and PHIPA
- Knowledge of Canadian Standards for Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing and relevant policies
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated competence in assessment, care, medications, interventions and documentation
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the position
- Must be available to work shifts
- Recent psychiatric nursing and/or forensic experience preferred
- Second language proficiency is an asset
