Job Summary
Maintain and care for various animals within the Zoo, assist veterinary staff, and perform a variety of responsibilities related to assigned duties. Responsibilities include feeding, cleaning animal quarters, preparing diets, observing animal behavior, assisting in minor veterinary operations, and responding to public inquiries. Knowledge of zoo animal programs and safe animal handling procedures is necessary. The position may require physical tasks, the ability to work in inclement weather, and the operation of animal care equipment.
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of zoo animal programs
- Ability to handle a variety of animals safely
- Ability to implement diet instructions from a nutritionist
- Ability to maintain accurate animal records
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
Desired Qualifications
- One year of increasingly responsible zoo keeping experience
- Specialized collegiate courses/training in zoology or a related field
Additional Requirements
- Must possess a valid Class 'C' driver license
