Job Summary
Temporary Laboratory/Research Technician in the Department of Entomology (CALS) at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. Responsible for routine mosquito biology research, rearing colonies, conducting molecular assays (DNA extraction, PCR), data recording and analysis, assisting with lab operations and inventory, and maintaining laboratory safety and records. Requires a High School Diploma with 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience; preferred Associate’s Degree with related coursework. This is a temporary, on-site 6-month position (39 hours/week) located in Ithaca, NY, with a wage of $23.40–$23.69 per hour. Visa sponsorship and relocation assistance are not provided. Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma and 2+ years relevant laboratory experience
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Ability to exercise some degree of independence
- Ability to work with chemicals
- Ability to lift 20-50 pounds
- Experience collecting data and using basic database/word processing programs
- Knowledge of basic molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR)
- Experience rearing and working with mosquitoes
- Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
