Temporary Communications Specialist at PEU

Job Summary

Write, edit, and proofread clear, engaging copy for social media, newsletters, websites, outreach materials, and reports. Draft social media content that translates PEU programs, services, and resources into accessible language for a public audience. Maintain and update the social media content calendar, then schedule and publish posts across channels ensuring accuracy and proper formatting. Coordinate with team members to gather materials, adapt content for different platforms, and review all outputs for grammar and branding consistency. Assist with basic graphic creation and help maintain organized digital assets. Support communications for events, campaigns, and public information initiatives within a fast-paced environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent writing, copywriting, editing, and proofreading skills.
  • The ability to turn complex information into clear, concise, and engaging content for a general audience.
  • Experience developing content for social media and an understanding of how writing and content should be adapted across platforms.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • The ability to work independently, take direction, incorporate feedback, and collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment where priorities may shift quickly.
  • An interest in public service and communicating information that helps connect New Yorkers with government programs, benefits, and resources.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience using Hootsuite or another social media management and scheduling platform.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, particularly programs used for graphic design, photo editing, video editing, or content creation.
  • Proficiency in a language other than English, particularly experience creating, reviewing, or adapting communications for multilingual audiences.
  • Experience working in government, nonprofit, advocacy, community engagement, public affairs, or another mission-driven environment.
  • Familiarity with accessibility and language-access best practices for public-facing communications.
  • Experience with basic graphic design, photography, video, or other digital content creation.
