Job Summary
Prep and maintain a rental fleet of generators, air compressors, load banks, and related equipment in field and shop settings. Troubleshoot operational failures, perform minor and major repairs, and install or commission new units. Safely drive a service vehicle and operate a forklift up to 34,000 lbs. Mentor other technicians, document all work and repairs, verify fuel consumption, and inspect equipment details upon return. Install service tags and move rental-ready equipment to proper storage areas while keeping the yard organized.
Required Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of five years of experience working with Caterpillar or competitor's power generation systems
- A clean driving record
- A current driver's license
- Basic computer skills
- Good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to comprehend, speak and write the English language
- Ability to use basic hand tools and electrical tools
- Ability to use torque wrenches
- Ability to use phase rotation meter
- Ability to use clamp-on amp meter
- Ability to use high voltage sticks
- Ability to use high voltage grounding equipment
- Ability to use megohmmeter
- Ability to use emissions analyzer
- Ability to use blow-by pick up tool group
- Ability to use borescope
- Ability to safely and correctly tie in a mobile rental generator set and peripheral equipment using load bank test equipment utilizing either reactive or resistive load banks
- Knowledge of Air Compressor control systems
- Sound understanding of electricity and electronics including AC and DC circuits
- Sound understanding of basic gaseous fueled engines
- Sound understanding of fuel systems
- Sound understanding of cooling systems
- Sound understanding of charging systems
- Sound understanding of lubrication systems
- Understanding of the effect of the methane number on engine timing and performance
- Understanding of the calculations necessary to establish the effect of temperature, altitude, and low heat value on developed horsepower
- Ability to read schematics
- Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical problems
- Ability to safely operate a forklift up to 34,000 lbs
- Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull and/or otherwise move up to 25 pounds
