Job Summary

Process specialty referral orders by obtaining insurance authorization, attaching clinical documents, and submitting to specialty offices. Contact patients to confirm referral details and document interactions in the electronic health record. Obtain specialist consultation notes, close referrals, and collate relevant documents for submission. Review referral documentation for follow-ups, confirm appointment status, and request consultation reports as needed. Answer incoming calls from patients and offices, address caller needs, and respond to patient cases. Complete chart processing and RAF requests from the Utilization Management bucket, and request consultation notes or prescriptions for 340B claims. Maintain HIPAA compliance and demonstrate cultural sensitivity while adhering to safety policies and AIDET standards.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Graduation from an accredited school in Medical Assisting
  • Certified or registered medical assistant (CMA/RMA)
  • Other relevant medical experience
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of patients or employees of organization
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs
  • Ability to apply sound judgment in understanding to carry out instructions in written or oral form
  • Ability to make appropriate job decisions following standard office policies and past precedents
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheets, email, and keyboarding
  • Microsoft Office and Google Suite skills
  • Working knowledge of EHR
  • Current, valid, unrestricted California Driver's License (Class C)
  • Pass a criminal history background check
  • Pass a drug screen
  • Annual health examination
  • Annual Tuberculosis skin test clearance or chest x-ray
  • Proof of immunity to MMR, Varicella, and Hepatitis B
  • Proof of Tdap vaccine
  • Proof of influenza vaccine or a signed declination form during current flu season
  • Must be able to work in a cubicle setting
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment consisting of inbound and outbound calls
  • Must be willing to have a flexible work schedule that may include evenings/weekends
  • Must be willing to travel as needed
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds of supplies
