Job Summary
Entry-level Telescope Mechanic responsible for routine maintenance, installation, testing, calibration and repair of mechanical, electrical, and limited electronic components on radio telescopes; assists with operation and testing of equipment, inventory maintenance, and indoor/outdoor painting as needed. Must climb antenna stairs to heights above 100 feet, lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in all weather, and operate in a high-noise environment with PPE. Requires a High School diploma or GED and at least 2 years of experience or equivalent; valid West Virginia driver’s license; safety-sensitive position with post-offer drug screening. Location: Green Bank, WV. Compensation: starting hourly rate between $20.98 and $24.23, with benefits package and no H-1B sponsorship.
Required Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- minimum 2 years of experience or equivalent education/experience
- mechanical work or industrial maintenance
- welding or industrial spray painting (preferred)
- ability to read schematics and blueprints
- ability to climb antennas and lift up to 50 pounds
- valid West Virginia driver's license
- ability to work outdoors at heights and in high-noise environments
