Job Summary
The OSP Crew Groundman is an entry-level role on a fiber network construction crew. Responsibilities include manual labor with hand tools (primarily shovels), missile operation and ground work, installing conduit, pulling conductor and fiber, digging, repairing wire, operating heavy equipment, and performing restoration. Duties also cover calling in utility locates, potholing utilities in missile paths, monitoring gauges, maintaining and servicing equipment, and assisting the Missile Crew Lead with coordination and close-out packages. The position requires safety compliance with OSHA and related regulations, reading design maps is beneficial, ability to lift over 70 pounds, and the capability to pass pre-employment screenings and background checks; HS diploma or equivalent and a valid driver license are required. Preferred experience includes fiber installs, restoration, and operation of vibratory plows or mini-excavators. Working outdoors in varied weather and possible long hours including weekends is expected.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Class Driver License or State Issued ID
- Ability to pass pre-employment screenings (motor vehicle, drug, and background)
- Experience with fiber installs preferred
- Must work safely and follow OSHA and other safety regulations and procedures
- Ability to read design maps is beneficial
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Ability to climb ladders and work in confined spaces
- Ability to perform strenuous physical activities including lifting objects weighing over 70 pounds
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to communicate effectively
- 1 year of relevant experience preferred, or equivalent education and experience
- Restoration experience in asphalt and concrete preferred
- Experience operating vibratory plows beneficial
- Experience operating mini-excavators beneficial
