Job Summary
Install, maintain, and repair outside telecommunications infrastructure including underground and aerial copper/fiber cabling, backbone systems, and conduits. Perform fiber and copper splicing, OTDR and power meter testing, fault isolation, and emergency restoration. Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and safety hazard assessments while documenting cabling routes and test results. Collaborate with engineers and site leadership for infrastructure upgrades. Requires 3–5 years of OSP cabling experience, Secret-level security clearance, and technical certifications in fiber optics or electronics.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- 3–5 years hands-on experience in OSP cabling
- Prior experience working in base or campus-style environments
- Fiber Optic Installer or Technician Certification
- Confined Space Entry and Fall Protection training
- Proficiency with OTDR, fusion splicer, power meters
- Proficiency with Cable locating equipment and tone generators
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and route maps
- Intermediate to advanced level skills in Microsoft Office software suite - Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and outside contacts
- Strong interpersonal skills and good judgment with the ability to work alone or as part of a team
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to stand and walk for prolonged amounts of time
- Must be able to twist, bend and squat periodically
- Must currently hold a security clearance at the Secret level
- US Citizenship
Desired Qualifications
- Technical trade certification (telecom, electronics, or fiber optics)
- Prior experience working in base or campus-style environments (e.g., DoD, universities, utilities)
