Job Summary
Telecommunications/Electronics Technician responsible for organizing and leading on-site telecom installations. Perform site surveys, document current LAN/WLAN configurations and user requirements, design and optimize telecom topologies, and lead development of installation packages and project drawings. Develop on-site installation schedules, mobilize installation teams, and document configuration changes at each site. Requires DoD Secret Clearance, willingness to travel, proficiency with Cisco/Juniper/Ruckus gear, RF planning, fiber/copper testing, and experience in LAN/WLAN design upgrades. Rigorous QA of drawings and photos, with reporting (Daily Site Survey Reports) and close-out activities. Must be able to adapt to DoD environments and work at Fort Bliss, TX.
Required Qualifications
- 2 years of telecommunications/electronics vocational training or professional certification from an ABET accredited technical school or equivalent military school
- 5 years' experience in two or more of the identified specialties
- Familiarity with Cisco, Juniper, or Ruckus switches, wireless LAN controllers, and wireless access points/air monitors
- Proficiency with CAT 5e/6 copper or single/multimode fiber
- IT/ADP Level I or II
- Troubleshooting telecommunications equipment including system interfaces and power/ground issues
- Experience in testing communications and power equipment/systems and following standard test procedures
- Willing to travel for required work responsibilities
- DoD Secret Clearance required based on Tier III investigation
- Ability to develop installation schedules, mobilize installation teams, and document configuration changes
- Ability to perform site surveys and document LAN/WLAN configurations
- Ability to create and review engineering installation packages and project drawings
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN design upgrades and pre-survey tasks
- Experience with RF signage and WLAN placement planning
- Experience with fiber/copper testing and fiber cleaning procedures
- Proficient in using test equipment (digital and Ethernet test sets, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, power meters)
- Experience with CMR/SEA infrastructure grounding and bonding
