Job Summary

Telecommunications Access Engineer role focused on designing, deploying, and optimizing last-mile access networks. Responsibilities include designing and deploying access network infrastructure (OLTs, ONTs, DSLAMs/CMTS, wireless base stations, edge routers), evaluating new access technologies and CPE in lab settings before field deployment, capacity planning to prevent congestion and maintain SLAs, serving as Tier 3 escalation for physical Layer issues, collaborating with OSP engineering, field technicians, and core network teams, and developing automation and provisioning templates and scripts to automate device provisioning, configuration backups, and monitoring. Required qualifications emphasize hands-on access technologies (GPON/XGS-PON/Active Ethernet/DOCSIS 3.1/4.0/Fixed Wireless), IP networking (VLANs, OSPF, BGP, IPv4/IPv6), experience with vendor hardware (Nokia, Calix, Adtran, Cisco, Juniper, Ciena), and tool familiarity (Wireshark, SNMP, optical power meters). Preferred qualifications include a Bachelors in Electrical Engineering/Telecommunications/Computer Networking, CCNA/CCNP/JNCIA/JNCIS, and network automation experience with Python, Ansible, Netmiko. Pay range is $50-$60 per hour.

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma, GED equivalent, or relevant work experience
  • Authorization to work in the United States
  • Valid state driver's license with clean record
  • At least two years related experience and/or training
  • Access Technologies: GPON / XGS-PON / Active Ethernet / DOCSIS 3.1/4.0 / Fixed Wireless Access
  • IP Networking: VLANs, STP, OSPF, BGP, IPv4/IPv6, multicast
  • Hardware Proficiency with Nokia, Calix, Adtran, Cisco, Juniper, or Ciena
  • Analytical Skills: network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, SNMP, optical power meters)
  • Ability to operate and configure access equipment from multiple vendors
