Job Summary
Telecommunication Officer handles emergency 911 and non-emergency calls, determines urgency, dispatches police units, and maintains contact with field units. Works in a 24-hour facility with rotating shifts and potential overtime; may assist in training and equipment management. Requires initiative and sound judgment when interacting with distressed individuals. Must communicate effectively, possess problem-solving and teamwork skills, be proficient in writing and basic mathematics, and be knowledgeable of local regulations and CAD/communications equipment. Key duties include prioritizing calls, monitoring unit activity, logging communications, accessing databases as needed, and maintaining confidentiality; ability to work under pressure and coordinate with multiple agencies. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and meet the physical/mental demands of emergency telecommunications, including travel-related requirements as described, and pass background checks and assessments.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required
- 18 years of age minimum
- valid driver's license with good driving record
- Must complete the Basic Telecommunication's Course within 6 months of employment
