Teens Make Health Happen Mentorship

Job Summary

Collaborate with teen wellness leaders and site partners to deliver the Teens Make Health Happen wellness club across 2–3 schools in San Diego. Research local health inequities, conduct needs assessments, and track progress to measure impact. Plan and implement program offerings including lunchtime demonstrations, step challenges, and community improvement projects for 6–8 hours weekly, with 3–4 hours dedicated to instruction at assigned campuses. Host monthly Café O Yea demonstrations and contribute to regional events and social media platforms to share program highlights. Represent HealthCorps in outreach efforts to connect teens, staff, and community members to resources while ensuring accessible health information.

Required Qualifications

  • An undergraduate or graduate college student majoring, or interested, in public health, public policy, biology, nutrition, marketing, psychology, education, social work or other related fields
  • In good academic standing with your university
  • A commitment of 8+ hours each week to the mentorship for the entire academic year
  • A self-expectation and strong desire to grow personally and professionally as a leader in the community, and as a speaker who is comfortable in learning and presenting on health-related topics to a teen audience
  • Ability to travel to assigned sites, which may include distances of up to 40 miles/ within the San Diego area
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
  • Your mentorship offer is contingent upon a clearance of a background investigation and/or reference check
