Job Summary
Plan and facilitate engaging gym activities, organize sports leagues and tournaments, and introduce games like basketball, volleyball, and pickleball. Teach sportsmanship, teamwork, and conflict resolution while adapting programs for varying ages and skill levels. Build positive relationships with teens, encourage participation from all members, and foster an inclusive environment centered on respect and healthy competition. Maintain a safe recreation space by setting up and cleaning equipment daily, monitoring participant behavior, and reporting maintenance issues promptly. Create alternative game room challenges including trivia, card games, and team-building activities when the gym is unavailable. Lead groups of 20-50 participants in both gymnasium and recreation spaces.
Required Qualifications
- Experience working with youth ages 11-18
- Background in sports, recreation, coaching, physical education, or youth development
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Ability to motivate and engage teenagers
- Dependable, positive, and professional
- Ability to remain calm while supervising multiple participants
- Ability to stand, walk, and actively participate for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to demonstrate sports skills and recreational activities
- Comfortable working in both gymnasium and recreation spaces
- Some special events, tournaments, and occasional weekends
Desired Qualifications
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred (or willingness to obtain)
- Loves working with teenagers
- Naturally builds relationships and earns respect
- Is energetic and enjoys being active throughout the day
- Can think creatively and keep teens engaged, even when plans change
