Job Summary
Receive class patrons, answer questions, and maintain a positive experience while instructing effective workout methods using proper techniques. Demonstrate exercises, identify muscle groups, and teach appropriate strengthening methods while ensuring adherence to safety standards and facility policies. Prepare equipment, music, and handouts for each session, monitor equipment maintenance, and report issues promptly. Teach scheduled classes including warm-ups, exercises, stretching, and cool-downs. Work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and holidays in a public setting with frequent noises and interruptions.
Required Qualifications
- 18 years of age or older
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current CPR, First Aid, and AED certification
- Certified Instructor ACE, AFAA, NASM, USWFA, or equivalent
- Must pass a required pre-employment background check
- Must pass subsequent mandatory background checks
- Knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles
- Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, cueing techniques, rhythm, and choreography
- Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services
- Ability to exhibit good leadership qualities, sound judgment, and integrity
- Ability to work with the public in a fast-paced and challenging environment
- Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
- Ability to motivate class participants in a professional manner
- Ability to learn new activities and tasks; accept and adapt to change
- Ability to work effectively with crowds and uncooperative individuals during difficult situations, emergencies, or periods of continuous demand
- Ability to work a variety of shifts including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays depending on department needs
- Ability to work in a public setting
- Ability to work in an environment with frequent noises and interruptions
- Ability to work effectively with crowds and uncooperative individuals
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform other physical exertion
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds unassisted
Desired Qualifications
- Knowledge of related sports and activities associated with the Fieldhouse
- Personal training certification
- Additional fitness specialties and certifications
