Technology Support Specialist

Job Summary

Install, upgrade, and relocate computers, peripherals, and network cabling throughout the district. Diagnose and repair hardware for printers, terminals, and personal computers while servicing equipment per preventive maintenance schedules. Assist end-users to resolve software and hardware problems in-person and on the phone, communicating with vendors and technology staff as needed. Log all support instances, create knowledge base articles, and prioritize work-orders to align with departmental policy. Maintain accurate records of time, materials, and maintenance activities. Operate tools and equipment following prescribed safety procedures, including climbing and lifting, while adhering to district emergency protocols. Work cooperatively with end-users and technology groups to detect and resolve issues, utilizing remote repairs and frequent district-wide travel. Maintain confidentiality and participate in professional development to stay current on rules and practices.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be present regularly in person
  • Must be able to climb, stoop, bend, and kneel
  • Must be able to use small hand tools and electronic test equipment
  • Must be able to perform frequent district wide travel
  • Must be able to handle occasional prolonged and irregular hours
  • Must be able to be on-call 24 hours a day
  • Must be able to lift, carry, and climb as part of job duties

Desired Qualifications

  • Associate's degree or trade school
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Microsoft certification
  • A+ certification
  • Network+ certification
  • Cisco certification
  • Experience in the areas of computer and peripheral maintenance repair
  • Experience with Windows 7, 10 and MAC operating systems
  • Experience installing, configuring, and servicing desktop systems, laptop systems, chromebooks, network peripherals and local peripherals
  • Experience in connectivity and servicing of computer systems to LAN/WAN
  • Experience in configuring and servicing IP/LAN printers and other network peripherals
  • Effective communication with customers and non-technical persons
  • Two or more years' experience in technical /customer support role
