Job Summary
Senior Controls Technologist responsible for developing and maintaining Chiller Controls Software, including application and user interface (UI) development, software versioning, maintenance and documenting changes, and updating IO/data points. Provides technical support for troubleshooting, verification and validation for chillers in service or during R&D prototype testing. Performs software testing, commissioning of chillers and heat pumps, and writes technical documents such as sequences of operations, user guides, and software manuals. Stays current with industry developments in control systems, interfaces with controls components suppliers, collaborates with mechanical and electrical design teams to ensure cohesive product design, and implements and tunes serial- and Ethernet-based industrial communication protocols. Defines areas for improvement, estimates project scope and timelines, mentors junior staff, and ensures components meet design requirements. The role requires strong problem-solving, team collaboration, attention to detail, and the ability to communicate technical topics in both French and English within a multicultural environment.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
- Bachelor’s degree in controls design, industrial automation or similar
- Proficiency in Function Block Diagram (FBD), Ladder Diagram (LD), Structured Text (ST)
- Experience with HMI design for machine control or data acquisition systems
- Extensive knowledge of serial-based and Ethernet-based industrial communication protocols
- Understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts as applied to control languages
- Extensive knowledge of control systems hardware platforms
- Strong written and spoken communication in French and English
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote)
