Job Summary
Determine specimen acceptability per established criteria and perform routine and complex technical procedures according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures. Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot instrumentation while making technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving. Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls; report accurate and timely test results to deliver quality patient care. Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures, identify and replenish bench supplies, and assist with specimen processing as needed. Maintain a safe work environment with appropriate personal protective equipment. This role works in a high-volume, production-based environment at Ascension Columbia St. Mary's - Woman's Medical Center in Milwaukee. The position requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant science or MLS degree with one year of clinical laboratory testing experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology
- 1 year or more of clinical laboratory testing experience
- MLS degree
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment
- Familiarity with laboratory information systems
- Proficient with computers
- High level of attention detail
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Able to pass a standardized color blindness test
- Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs
- 1st shift; 7am - 3:30pm Monday to Friday with rotating weekends and holiday rotation
Desired Qualifications
- 1 year or more of experience working in microbiology as a MLS
- ASCP or AMT certification
