Job Summary
Perform pretransfusion testing on overnight shift for patient/donor blood specimens and prepare blood components for transfusion per physician requests. Maintain competency in technical work of the Blood Bank Laboratory, verify patient identification at all procedure steps, and perform blood analyses while entering test results into the LIS. Review test requests for errors, omissions, and clarity, verifying specimen appropriateness before proceeding. Work hours are 11pm to 7am M-F with every 3rd weekend Friday and Saturday night rotations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or closely related scientific discipline
- NYS Technologist License
- Perform pretransfusion testing on overnight shift for patient/donor blood specimens
- Prepare blood components for transfusion per physician requests
- Perform and maintain competency in the technical and related work of the Blood Bank Laboratory
- Verify patient identification at all steps of every procedure
- Perform blood analyses and enter test results into LIS (laboratory information system)
- Verify the accuracy of specimens and document specimen collection information in LIS
- Review all test requests for errors, omissions, clarity, and potential problems
- Verify that test requests are appropriate for the specimen received
- Verify that the specimen meets all requirements before proceeding
- Work hours: 11pm to 7am M-F and every 3rd weekend Friday night and Saturday night
