Job Summary
Perform diagnostic testing on patient samples and analyze results for accuracy, calibrate laboratory instrumentation, and complete preventive maintenance. Evaluate and record quality control data, institute corrective action as needed, and participate in proficiency sample testing. Establish effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public while troubleshooting malfunctions and evaluating new equipment. Maintain excellent written and verbal communication skills to support an efficient laboratory operation. Requires a Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or equivalent training, ASCP/MLS certification, and 1 to 3 years of clinical experience.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology or related field
- High school graduate or equivalent with 50-week military training as Medical Lab Specialist
- Graduate of an approved Medical Laboratory or Clinical Laboratory training program
- 1 to 3 years clinical laboratory experience
- 15 years clinical laboratory experience
- ASCP, MLS or equivalent level eligible at date of hire
- HEW/HHS certification as a technologist under the revised Medicare/CLIA '67 regulations (42 CFR 493.1433) published on March 14, 1990 (55 FR 9538)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Desired Qualifications
- 1 to 3 years clinical laboratory experience preferred
