Job Summary
A Medical Laboratory Technologist I in Bloodworks Northwest’s Compatibility Lab performs immunohematological procedures under routine and emergency protocols, including antibody detection, compatibility testing, and basic antibody identification, with responsibilities spanning order management, component distribution, quality functions, and transfusion safety. The role involves processing transfusion orders from transplant programs, issuing blood components, reporting results to physicians, performing crossmatch testing, maintaining competency in downtime procedures, adhering to GMP per CFR definitions, conducting daily reagent/equipment quality control, troubleshooting equipment issues, documenting anomalies, and supporting quality activities and proficiency testing. The position offers potential career progression to Technologist II–IV. Flexible scheduling and potential relocation assistance are noted. The role requires teamwork, strong attention to detail, dexterity, and ability to work in a highly regulated environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in clinical laboratory science or chemical, physical, or biological sciences (typically required for Testing Personnel, High Complexity Testing under CLIA Subpart M)
- Current certification as Blood Bank Technologist (BB-ASCP), Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS-ASCP), Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT-ASCP), or equivalent OR immediate eligibility for certification as BB(ASCP) Technologist, MLS(ASCP), or MLT(ASCP) or equivalent OR successful completion of an immunohematology course through an accredited institution
- BB (ASCP) and/or MLS (ASCP) certification strongly desired
- Prior laboratory testing experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated computer skills and data entry abilities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to obtain client facility clearance if required
