Job Summary
Conduct inspections, preventative maintenance, and detailed diagnostic tests on motors, hydraulic systems, and welding equipment. Troubleshoot malfunctions, perform major repairs, and replace components like valves and bearings. Respond to emergency maintenance requests and manage daily work orders while assisting with new equipment installation. Keep detailed records of all work performed and maintain a safe, clean working environment. Obtain replacement parts from inventory and advise the Parts Room Clerk when ordering. Work in a manufacturing plant environment with extreme temperature fluctuations and noise. Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds and work long hours including weekends. Valid driver's license required.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Minimum five years mechanical maintenance experience
- Equivalent associate degree in mechanical engineering
- Valid driver's license
- Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must be able to wear protective equipment such as safety glasses
- Must have manual dexterity
- Ability to work long hours and weekends
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, climb, squat, crawl, talk, and listen for long periods of time
- Ability to travel in relation with the work and/or continued education
- Ability to operate hand and power tools, industrial machines, digital cameras, phones, scanners, tools, and controls in a safe manner
- Specific vision abilities: close vision, distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus, hand-eye coordination
- Ability to control machines and processes using either control mechanisms or direct physical activity to operate machines or processes
- Ability to locate, diagnose, and repair most major mechanical malfunctions in equipment
- Ability to identify issues or potential issues
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to prioritize and effectively manage time to meet deadlines with minimal supervision
- Ability to work and concentrate in a noisy environment
- Ability to respond to all emergency or non-emergency situations
- Ability to work independently as well as within a team
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, managers, and senior management in both a verbal and written manner
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions and to interpret plans and sketches
- Strong mechanical and electrical technical aptitude
- Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, equipment manuals, and parts catalogs
- Basic knowledge of industrial power systems, electricity, and oil and gas machinery
- Ability to operate cutting torches or welding equipment to cut or join metal parts
- Ability to use equipment designed to inspect, test, monitor, and measure safe environmental levels
- General knowledge of OSHA and HAZMAT regulations
- First Aid Knowledge
- Ability to alert maintenance supervisor of any unusual occurrence and/or damage that may have taken place or that may occur
- Ability to conserve maintenance resources by using equipment, tools, and supplies as needed to accomplish job results
- Ability to obtain correct replacement parts from inventory and/or advise Parts Room Clerk when a part needs to be ordered
- Ability to maintain a professional courteous manner with all vendors, contractors, customers, and fellow employees
- Ability to comply with all work related activities in a fair, ethical, and consistent manner
- Ability to mentor lower level maintenance employees and equipment operators regarding maintenance issues
- Ability to assure all safety standards are used when working on equipment
- Ability to maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Ability to contribute to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
- Ability to exercise discretion to identify projects that need a higher skill level and inform supervisors
- Ability to keep detailed records of the work performed
- Ability to keep track of company tools
- Ability to perform inspections and extensive preventative maintenance as needed and directed
- Ability to perform detailed diagnostic tests, routine repairs, troubleshooting, and adjustment of equipment/facilities
- Ability to visually inspect hydraulic lines and components to detect leaks, damage, and wear
- Ability to read pressure gauges to detect abnormal oil pressure and smell to detect overheated oil
- Ability to disassemble defective hydraulic components and replace/repair, and reassemble
- Ability to observe readouts on display screens or computers to determine nature of system malfunction
- Ability to operate standard testing equipment to diagnose malfunctions
- Ability to respond to emergency maintenance requests
- Ability to manage and complete assigned daily work orders
- Ability to assist with installation of new equipment as requested
- Ability to perform general mechanical overhaul and repair work on motors, control systems, pneumatic systems, resistance welding systems, and hydraulic systems
- Ability to perform minor welding and modify equipment and fabricate parts as needed or as directed
- Ability to perform routine preventive maintenance to ensure the physical conditions of equipment and buildings do not deteriorate
- Ability to assist with renovation and remodeling of buildings and/or work stations as requested
- Ability to grow technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing technical publications, and establishing personal networks
Desired Qualifications
- Technical certifications in welding, pipefitting, general motor repair, hydraulics, and pneumatics
- Master's degree preferred
- Certification preferred
