Job Summary

Operate broadcast cameras, drones, and non-linear editing systems while managing teleprompter, jib, and transmission control duties across field, studio, and multi-platform social media environments. Safely drive microwave-equipped vehicles on long drives in all weather conditions, ensuring equipment protection and meeting daily show production deadlines. Execute physically demanding tasks including carrying heavy gear, setting up broadcast production, and operating retractable antenna masts within strict safety guidelines. Contribute to editorial processes with story ideas and adapt to unpredictable shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays, while communicating reliably with crews, the public, and third parties during complex logistical situations.

Required Qualifications

  • Five years' experience as a photographer, editor and studio technician
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, media production or similar field
  • Valid Illinois drivers license
  • Physical ability to carry and manipulate at least 75lbs of gear
  • Ability to drive company vehicles in all conditions
  • Flexibility regarding assigned work schedule, including weekends and/or late nights and/or overnights
  • Consistent ability to communicate reliably and credibly
  • Ability to deal with complex logistical situations in the field
  • Consistent ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a calm and professional manner
  • Capable of potentially lengthy, physically and emotionally stressful assignments in the field
  • Ability to adapt to writing content for air
  • Ability to contribute to social media strategies and multimedia journalism

Desired Qualifications

  • Expert understanding of local news production
  • Both field, studio and transmission experience
  • Support broadcast and multi-platform social media strategies
  • Studio duties including teleprompter, jib operator, editing, transmission control and field duties
  • Professional operation of broadcast cameras, drones, digital microwave, non-linear editing systems, and IP based broadcast applications
  • Knowledge and experience with Sony HD cameras
  • Experience with Edius non-linear editing
  • Experience with jib, teleprompter and lighting
  • Strong non-linear editing background, including Edius
  • Familiarity with Chicago area
  • Drone ENG experience with FAA Part 107 certification
  • Results-Oriented and Innovative mindset
  • Excellent storytelling skills
  • Ability to work under deadline pressure
