Job Summary
Provides a combination of direct patient care and unit clerical duties for the department under the direction of a Clinical Nurse and supports the patient care team. Ensures a clean and orderly environment for patients; provides information, directions and assistance to physicians, patients, families, customers and vendors. May schedule tests and procedures, maintain patient records, and sign patients in/out of the unit; may order/receive/deliver equipment and supplies; may provide continuous observation including suicide prevention.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- CPR may be required to complete Unit Secretary training
- previous comparable acute patient care experience or successful completion of the IU Health PCA education program
- basic knowledge of medical terminology
- knowledge of procedures and standards related to patient care activities
- knowledge of infection control
- basic computer skills
