Job Summary
Complete servicing, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and modification of traction and rolling stock to defined specifications. Carry out planned preventative maintenance and ride units in service to assess condition. Ensure compliance with local, company, and industry safety procedures, including acting as a Designated Person for depot protection. Compile accurate work records, technical reports, and manage stores procedures within the electronic Maintenance Management System. Operate powered plant equipment and instruct new entrants, apprentices, and contractors on maintenance procedures. Make recommendations to management to improve technical documentation, tooling, and work practices for enhanced productivity and fleet reliability. Commit to a minimum 14-month period after achieving competence.
Required Qualifications
- Completed appropriate apprenticeship or hold relevant qualifications in electrical / mechanical engineering as specified by current company policy.
- Knowledge of West Midlands Trains maintained rolling stock (be prepared to undertake appropriate training).
- Road Vehicle driving licence and authority to drive Railway Service vehicles.
- Emergency First Aid (Compulsory)
- PTS / Designated Person Trained (if required)
- Power Plant equipment trained
- E2 Competent
- Some specific additional skills in this grade group i.e. Lathe Operator, Welder, Carriage repairer/painter.
