Job Summary
Toyota is seeking a Prototype Support Powertrain Testing Technician to manage, schedule, and prepare vehicles for chassis dynamometer and on-road testing, ensuring safety, data quality, and timely delivery of results. The role requires an associate degree or equivalent experience, 3+ years in vehicle testing/diagnostics, strong knowledge of vehicle control systems, fabrication and data reporting skills, and willingness to travel and work overtime.
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in automotive-related discipline, trade school certification, or minimum of 3 years of equivalent work experience in a related field
- Minimum of 3 years demonstrated experience in vehicle or vehicle component testing, repair, and diagnostics
- Strong understanding of vehicle control systems including Electrical (12V and High Voltage), OBD, EFI, emissions controls, and CAN bus communication
- Willingness to work an average of 5 hours of overtime per week and travel up to 10%, including domestic and international
- Proficiency in reading blueprints and other technical data
- Proficiency in using precision measuring tools such as torque wrenches, calipers, and dial indicators
- Ability to interpret instrumentation and system data; prepare inspection reports, analyze, and publish data
- Ability to measure part dimensions (length, height, distance between reference points) to ensure parts meet specifications before installation of prototype vehicle parts
- Ability to perform routine cleaning and maintenance of all vehicles and machine shop equipment
- Ability to work any shift
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and lift up to 35 pounds
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) at an entry level
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair various vehicle and powertrain components; reporting findings
- Experience with 5S, Kaizen, maintenance of testing equipment; support for Toyota Safety Management System
- Created and reviewed Standard Work Procedures with related Job Instruction Sheets
- Inspection activities adhering to a quality plan
- Use of parts systems including Microsoft Power Apps to track all parts incoming/outgoing
Desired Qualifications
- Professional automotive repair experience (e.g., dealer) (desired)
- ASE certifications in Engine Performance, Brakes, and Suspension (desired)
- Automotive testing experience with chassis and engine dynamometers (desired)
- Technical report writing and testing documentation skills, including ability to create graphs from recorded data (desired)
- Advanced fabrication experience with machine shop lathe, mill, and TIG/MIG welding (desired)
- Prior knowledge of Toyota tools for software and data acquisition (Panel 4, TS Writer, GTS+) (desired)
- Battery electric vehicle (BEV) / fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV) experience (desired)
- Proven ability to diagnose and repair various vehicle and powertrain components; reporting findings (desired)
- Experience evaluating product issues with problem solving skills to prevent recurrence (desired)
- Daily 5S, Kaizen, maintenance of testing equipment, and Quality Circle activities; support Toyota Safety Management System (desired)
- Created and reviewed Standard Work Procedures with related Job Instruction Sheets (desired)
- Use of Microsoft Power Apps to track parts (desired)
- Experience with data acquisition systems (desired)
