Job Summary
Determine general condition of vehicles and analyze malfunctions of diesel or gasoline engines using visual, auditory, or testing equipment. Operate engines to locate external damage, worn parts, or accessories, while checking fuel, cooling systems, batteries, oil levels, and fan belts. Inspect fuel tanks weekly for leakage, break down and mount tires as directed, and road test equipment. Maintain cleanliness of fuel dispersal sites, work bays, and the overall safe work environment. Comply with directives from the Technician I, Assistant Director of Fleet, and Director of Transportation. Maintain records of job performance and tool security.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent
- Three (3) years successful experience as a mechanic working on trucks or buses
- Must demonstrate prompt and regular attendance
- Thorough knowledge of mechanics
- Ability to keep suitable records of job performance
- Possess a valid drivers license
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions
- Map reading
- Learning locations of schools in the city
- Familiarize himself with accounting
