Technician I/Coax

Job Summary

Install, operate, and maintain voice and data telecommunications network circuits and equipment by placing coaxial cable, installing passive/active devices, and splicing CATV gear. Rough balance and troubleshoot the coaxial cable plant while safely operating aerial lifts, tools, and vehicles. Organize materials, complete required documentation, and read blueprints or design maps to execute construction tasks. Work outdoors in all weather conditions, often standing for long periods or climbing at elevations. May be required to work long, unpredictable hours.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma, general education degree (G.E.D.), or related trade school education
  • Six months of coax, aerial, and fiber construction experience
  • Six months of pole climbing experience
  • Must have or obtain and maintain DOT certification
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes background and drug testing
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a driving record that meets Company requirements
  • Must be in good physical condition with the ability to stoop, crawl, bend at the knees and waist, squat and lift 75 lbs.
  • Ability to climb and work at elevations
  • Ability to pull rope/cables and dig with shovel
  • Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time on varied surfaces
  • May be required to work long and unpredictable hours

Desired Qualifications

  • Six months to one year of telecommunication construction and cable experience preferred
  • Commercial driver's license (CDL) preferred
  • Knowledge of highway traffic control standards
  • Computer and Microsoft Office proficiency
  • Ability to use hand tools
  • Ability to pole frame and place strands
  • Knowledge of G.O. 95 and similar state aerial guidelines
  • Understanding of coax fiber design prints
  • Ability to read blueprints, CATV design maps, and basic electronic designs
  • Ability to read, comprehend, and carry out instructions
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment under tight deadlines
  • Ability to motivate, lead, teach, and train on proper work and safety procedures
