Job Summary
Technician in the Used Parts Shop performs mechanical services on new and used heavy equipment in the service shop, including testing, repairing and rebuilding equipment. Responsibilities include ordering parts, writing service reports, returning parts, applying core returns, assigning time to jobs, and adhering to safety rules. Maintains equipment/tools, ensures good housekeeping (5S), diagnoses and repairs equipment, completes service time reporting and parts tracking, aims to meet customer needs and deadlines, and demonstrates professionalism with customers and peers. Must have a solid understanding of hydraulics, power train, electrical systems, and the ability to operate PC-based systems; overtime/weekend work may be required. Required Qualifications
- High school education or equivalent
- Vocational school with studies in diesel equipment repair
- 3-5 years of mechanical experience with heavy equipment (preferably Caterpillar)
- Strong working knowledge of hydraulics, power train and electrical systems
- Understanding of work area metrics and willingness to improve metrics
- Basic warranty administration understanding
- Customer-service orientation and ability to communicate with customers
- Overtime and weekend availability
- Proficiency with industry-specific PC and MS Word/Excel/database systems
- Knowledge of product and market, and Caterpillar influence
