Technician - Fabrication & Heavy Equipment Operations

Job Summary
Perform structural welding using FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW processes, and machine components with manual mills and lathes. Operate heavy equipment including forklifts, telehandlers, and excavators to support prototype builds and field testing. Execute hands-on mechanical maintenance, troubleshooting, and assembly while interpreting mechanical drawings and sketches. Inspect completed work for dimensional accuracy and weld quality, then collaborate with engineers to resolve fabrication issues. Maintain shop tools and machinery in safe operating condition while upholding a clean, organized workspace in both indoor and outdoor environments.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate
- Proven hands-on experience with FCAW, GMAW, and GTAW welding processes
- Demonstrated ability to machine parts using manual mills and lathes
- Experience operating forklifts, telehandlers, excavators, or comparable heavy equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience maintaining, troubleshooting, assembling, and repairing machinery
- Ability to work from mechanical drawings, sketches, verbal instructions, and limited documentation
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and execute with minimal supervision
- Strong commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and maintaining an organized workspace
- Ability to lift at least 50 pounds without assistance
- Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, climb, and work around heavy machinery
- Ability to work in both indoor shop environments and outdoor field conditions
- Willingness to work overtime, weekends, or flexible shifts when required to support prototype builds and field tests
- Reliable attendance and the ability to report to Traysar's facilities and test locations in the Bastrop, Texas area
- Willingness to follow all company safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment
Desired Qualifications
- Experience working with hydraulic systems, including hoses, fittings, cylinders, pumps, valves, and hydraulic troubleshooting
- Experience with horizontal directional drilling equipment or drilling operations
- Background in defense, oil and gas, construction, tunneling, mining, heavy equipment, agriculture, or another industrial environment
- Experience supporting prototype development, research and development testing, or low-volume machine builds
- Familiarity with field modifications, machine commissioning, and troubleshooting equipment under operating loads
- Ability to fabricate and machine components while working from incomplete or evolving designs
- Relevant welding, machining, forklift, telehandler, excavator, or heavy-equipment certifications
- Experience working directly with engineers to translate designs into functional hardware
