Job Summary
Maintain, install, and repair FTTH services, video, broadband internet, and voice systems from customer premises to the head end. Troubleshoot active and passive devices, including fiber optic theory and cable system operations, while clearing network and customer issues. Perform daily diagnostics, operate bucket trucks, and work aloft or underground using power tools. Drive 50 to 100 miles daily and coordinate with manufacturers for technical assistance. Work on-call schedules including Saturdays.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- 5 years of CATV, wireline and fiber optic installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repairs
- Ability to read and comprehend written materials
- Ability to communicate in both face-to-face and non-face-to-face situations
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and transport 200 feet
- Ability to work aloft on ladder or bucket truck, as well as underground while using power tools
- SCTE, NCTI or cable company equivalent certifications for maintenance tech or head end technician
- Experience with digital CATV systems, IP Video, Optical installation and troubleshooting
- Competent in fiber optic theory and fiber cable system operation, maintenance and troubleshooting
- PC skills utilizing laptop devices and basic software applications (MS Word, Excel, Web Browse)
- Valid Driver's license
- DCJS certification
- Knowledge of Telecommunications concepts, CATV, fiber optic and coaxial transport systems, electricity and electronics
- Troubleshooting skills in fiber optic systems using experience and test equipment
- Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public and staff, as well as 3rd party vendors and other utilities
- Will be included in Shentel on-call schedule
- Expected to work Saturdays periodically
