Job Summary
The Technical Writer I position is responsible for performing complex technical writing work, including composing, organizing, editing information, and managing publication production and website content. The role involves preparing formal responses to UI inquiries, developing informational and instructional materials, creating standard operating procedures, and updating internal and external web content. Candidates must possess a degree in a relevant field and have at least one year of technical writing experience. Skills in writing, editing, publishing, and web design are highly preferred, along with experience in accessibility compliance.
Required Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in business, English, education, or a related field
- One year of full-time experience in technical writing, journalism, or communications work may be substituted for each year (30 semester hours) of the required college
Desired Qualifications
- Writing, editing, proofreading, research, publishing and web publishing skills
- Experience in UI Benefits, Tax, and Appeals
- Experience writing customer service responses
- Experience developing SOP and training materials
- Windows, Word, PowerPoint, and/or Excel experience
- Experience with Dreamweaver or other web design tools
- Experience with HTML, CSS, Adobe Creative Suite, and Adobe RoboHelp
- Experience in making documents accessible to comply with Section 508
- 1-3 years professional writing experience
- Ability to work quickly with attention to detail while managing multiple priorities and frequent interruptions
