Job Summary
Provide technical writing, editing, and formatting support to the Marine & Mission Systems Department by proofreading documents for grammar, spelling, and style; editing content using MS Word tracked changes to ensure corporate consistency; and coordinating the production of engineering reports, proposals, and formal letters. Collaborate with subject matter experts and stakeholders to translate their knowledge into usable documentation while applying a unified content strategy. Support document management by circulating materials for internal review, registering documents in systems like Babcock and SharePoint, and issuing controlled documentation as required. Submit approved documents to clients in accordance with internal and contract processes. Report to the Document Control Lead. This 6-month contract is located in Ottawa, Victoria, or Halifax, with an expected salary range of $57,508 to $75,479.
Required Qualifications
- A diploma or degree in Technical Writing, English, Communications, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Three-plus years of professional experience as a technical writer and/or editor
- Advanced oral and written communication abilities, including superior grammar skills
- Interpersonal skills for collaboration with subject matter experts, colleagues, clients, and users
- Ability to function in a self-directed manner in a team environment, including personal workload management (organizing and prioritizing)
- Excellent time management skills with a focus on meeting deadlines in a high-paced environment
- Extensive knowledge and experience using MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, MS PowerPoint, Viso, SharePoint and/or other document management systems
- Skills researching information and attention to detail
- Eligibility for Canadian Secret Security and ITAR Clearance
Desired Qualifications
- Experience in writing and editing technical documentation such as contract bids, proposals, business texts, and technical reports (previous experience with technical terminology is considered an asset)
- Experience working with the Department of National Defence (DND) and/or Public Services and Procurement Canada (PSPC)
