Job Summary

Technical Specialist in Diagnostic Strategy responsible for overseeing the OBD system implementation, calibration, and validation for powertrain development programs, mentoring the calibration group on diagnostic calibration and validation strategy, and ensuring regulatory compliance. The role involves interpreting existing OBD regulations/standards, leading OBD system definition and boundary assessment, supervising diagnostic standardization, overseeing calibration/validation/certification activities on-road, chassis, and engine dynos, developing program plans, test plans, and documentation, interfacing with customers, and delivering technical results and next steps. Requires a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (or similar), 8+ years of OBD experience, hands-on calibration experience, proficiency with ETAS INCA or ATI Vision, strong software documentation and requirements-writing skills, and excellent communication and leadership abilities. Location: Livonia, MI; full-time on-site with no remote requirement specified.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
  • Minimum 8 years of OBD system implementation experience
  • Vehicle and/or dynamometer-based OBD diagnostic calibration development experience
  • Integrated Calibration and Application Tool (ETAS INCA) or ATI Vision calibration tools experience
  • Experience interpreting software documentation and writing functional requirements for new software feature implementation
  • Good driving record
  • Knowledge of modern powertrain operation
  • In depth knowledge of US OBD regulations
  • In depth knowledge of commonly used monitoring strategies to fulfill US OBD requirements
  • Ability to assess the OBD boundary of an application based on hardware and controls documentation
  • Extensive experience with OBD diagnostic calibration, validation, and documentation
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate in a team environment
  • Ability to lead and mentor team members
  • A successful candidate may also have: ability to drive a manual transmission vehicle, CDL B license
