Technical Services Manager – Power Systems Protection

Job Summary

Lead the Technical Services Department by providing strategic direction, mentoring a team of Technical Service Engineers, and delivering high-quality technical support to customers and internal stakeholders. Manage product demonstrations, application guidance, and remote/on-site assistance for power system protection, protective relays, and automation. Establish service standards, develop customer-facing documentation, and represent the client at industry conferences like NASPI and IEEE PSRC. Collaborate with Sales, Marketing, and Product Development to support business initiatives and resolve complex customer escalations. This role requires 15+ years of protection relay experience and 12 years with numerical relays, with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. The position offers a salary up to $160K annually, with on-site hours Monday through Friday and up to 25% travel within the US/Canada.

Required Qualifications

  • 12 years' experience working with numerical relays and recorders
  • 15+ years Protection Relay experience
  • Previous experience in leading and developing a team
  • Strong professional presentation skills, both written and verbal, which include the ability to hold difficult discussions with customers or employees to protect company interests
  • Working knowledge of electric power systems and practices and philosophies
  • Working knowledge of protective relay applications at utility or engineering firms and industry practices
  • Experience with EMTP, load flow, and short circuit studies
  • Knowledge of advanced communication protocols and communication system architecture
  • Expert knowledge of system protection, integration and automation applications
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen & criminal background check
  • Travel Requirement: Up to 25% within the US/Canada Internationally
  • Work Hours: Mon to Fri, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm. Onsite

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Utility companies, Consulting, and engineering companies would be an advantage
  • Strong people manager with excellent ability to take charge, understand business needs and manage workflow for the department
  • Demonstrated customer satisfaction by providing top-quality customer service and problem-solving to current and potential customers and providing technical support to the Sales team
  • Have developed and maintained an expert level of technical expertise in electric power system protection and/or automation (specifically relays and recorders)
