Job Summary
Guide customers on architecture, performance, recovery, and security while solving complex issues for mission-critical deployments at scale. Diagnose and optimize solutions spanning application tiers down to storage, leveraging expertise in Linux performance, Kubernetes, networking, and storage engineering. Contribute to internal projects including software development for support tools, AI-assisted diagnostics, and performance analysis. Share technical knowledge through documentation, training workshops, and mentoring peers to increase team and customer efficiency. This role supports the Infrastructure team's focus on automation, backup, and security underpinning MongoDB's data platform. You will work alongside product and development teams to advocate for customer needs while exploring new product capabilities across the ecosystem.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of proven experience
- Systems engineering experience, including Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, and troubleshooting
- Understand core Kubernetes concepts, including containers, namespaces, custom resources and multi-cluster deployments
- Should have a good understanding of Networking concepts and protocols (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.)
- Storage engineering experience, including NAS, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, and caching
- Experience building and maintaining complex mission-critical production database systems
- Broad awareness of customer workloads and use cases, including performance, availability, and scalability
- Experience analyzing issues holistically, from the application tier through the database, down to the storage
- Be able to read code, and basic coding/scripting ability in one or more languages: Java, Python, Ruby, C, C++, C#, Javascript, node.js, Go, etc.
- Desire and ability to rapidly learn a wide variety of new technical skills
- You should possess a genuine desire to help people, the ability to think on your feet and remain calm under pressure while solving problems in real-time
- willingness and ability to get help from team members when required, and good judgment to know when to seek help
- The position will be based in our Sydney office
- The standard work week post ramping will be Tuesday to Saturday, every week
Desired Qualifications
- Experience managing large scale databases (e.g. RDBMS, NoSQL)
- Experience with authentication systems such as LDAP, Kerberos, AD
- Experience using or managing MongoDB
- Experience using distributed version control systems, and in particular git
- Experience using any cloud services stack such as AWS, Azure or GCP
- Experience with Kubernetes (including CLI), ability to inspect resource / container status using relevant utilities and commands
