Job Summary
Lead technical direction and architecture for the Lending & Savings platform by defining scalable, secure distributed systems and making key architectural decisions. Remain hands-on by contributing production-quality code, reviewing critical changes, and driving engineering best practices across system design, testing, and observability. Mentor engineers through code reviews and technical coaching while owning delivery from design through production. Partner with the Business Lead and cross-functional teams to translate product vision into solutions that balance customer value with engineering complexity. Identify technical risks early and propose pragmatic solutions to ensure services remain resilient as the platform scales.
Required Qualifications
- Strong experience building backend systems using Kotlin or Java
- Experience designing distributed, event-driven systems using Kafka or similar messaging technologies
- Strong knowledge of PostgreSQL and relational database design
- Experience working with Redis or other NoSQL technologies
- Deep understanding of microservices architecture, APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native applications
- Experience with monitoring, observability, incident response, and production operations
- Strong debugging and performance optimisation skills
- Demonstrated experience shipping reliable production systems that process financial transactions
- Experience leading engineering teams while remaining hands-on
- Strong system design and architectural decision-making skills
- Experience owning technical delivery from planning through production
- Comfortable working with cross-functional stakeholders to translate product requirements into engineering solutions
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences
- A collaborative mindset with strong ownership and bias for execution
- This is a role based in our London office, with a mandatory in-office presence four days per week
- Work from Anywhere Policy: You can work remotely from anywhere in the world for up to 20 days per year
Desired Qualifications
- Experience building fintech or crypto products
- Experience with lending, borrowing, savings, custody, payments, or other financial infrastructure
- Understanding of collateral management, interest calculations, liquidation engines, or financial risk systems
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or similar as part of your engineering workflow
