Job Summary
Datadog is seeking a Technical Escalations Engineer 2 (APM - Java/Proxy/C++) in Mexico City. You will develop deep technical expertise on our platform, investigate complex escalations, lead high-stakes technical calls, mentor the Global Support Engineering team, and collaborate with Engineering and Product to improve tracing, instrumentation, and APM tooling. Responsibilities include running office hours and learning sessions, owning deep-dive investigations across distributed tracing, service dependencies, and instrumentation behavior, validating backend behavior with Engineering/Product, building reusable tooling and troubleshooting docs, and leading global enablement to raise APM fluency across teams. Ideal candidates are self-driven problem solvers who thrive in ambiguity, communicate effectively with customers, and have deep familiarity with distributed systems, tracing, and observability across languages like Java, Proxy, and C++. Bonus points for CS/Engineering majors and experience with Zendesk/Jira/Confluence.
Required Qualifications
- Experience in technical escalations and customer-facing engineering roles
- Strong knowledge of distributed systems and observability concepts
- Proficiency with Java, Proxy/C++, tracing libraries, and instrumentation methods (manual/auto)
- Familiarity with APM tooling, traces, and instrumentation gaps
- Ability to mentor and lead enablement sessions
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
- Bonus points: Computer Science or Engineering majors; experience with Zendesk, Jira, Confluence
